Volume flow measuring with the portable clamp-on flow meter KATflow 200; checking the installation parameters for pump systems (design and dimensioning).
KSB Service and the KATflow 200
German manufacturer KSB SE & Co. KGaA supplies innovative, tailor-made system components for industrial applications; from heating circulation pumps to larger pump components in nuclear power plants. Its division KSB Service GmbH provides worldwide commissioning, repairs, spare parts supply, technical advice and on-site maintenance. KSB's service engineers use the portable ultrasonic flowmeter, type KATflow 200, to check whether pumps meet their technical specifications and perform properly. Based on measurements of systems in operation, conclusions can be drawn as to whether the use of alternative pumps would be more efficient and whether replacement of parts, or a complete rebuild, is the better option. The measurements with the KATflow 200 therefore provide valuable insights for pump design and the dimensioning of systems.
Checking and optimizing
During a pumps life cycle, operating conditions and requirements can change. Special media, different densities and viscosities affect their service life, making regular monitoring of the installation parameters for pump systems not only sensible but also necessary. Drinking water systems in which the parameters change due to changing numbers of residents are an example of the importance of regular inspectations and adjustments. The determination of energy consumption and assessing the systems possible savings potential is another part of KSB Service's extensive scope, for example when pumps are retrofitted or converted.
Increasing demand for portable solutions
"The non-invasive, portable flowmeter KATflow 200 is a very good tool for our technical challenges," says Mr. Steffen Scholz, head of the KSB Service Center Dresden/Schwarzheide. "Its measurement technology is intuitive to operate, the menu navigation is clear and the devices are efficient to handle. It is more than likely that an increasing demand for such handheld technology can be expected."
Sensor installation is quick and simple using clips and chains. The positioning of the transducers is guided via the device by the 'Audible Sensor Positioning Assistant'. The flowmeter is immediately ready for use after entering a few measurement parameters and can be installed while the flow process is and remains in operation, regardless of conductivity or pressure. KSB Service uses the ultrasonic KATflow 200 for a wide range of applications. Potential measuring locations are all types of pipelines between DN 12.5 and DN 1,000.
