VERSATILE. RELIABLE. COMPLETE.

The Cygnus 4+ is a lightweight, rugged wall thickness gauge for a wide range of applications. With three measuring modes, a live A-scan display and sequential data logging, the instrument is suited to both routine inspection and detailed corrosion surveys.

Cygnus 4+ for high-temperature measurement on in-service assets

Compatible with a high-temperature probe, the Cygnus 4+ measures the wall thickness of in-service assets at surface temperatures up to 300°C, with no cooling period or shutdown required. This makes the instrument particularly well suited to inspections in the refining, oil and gas, energy and process sectors.

  • Multiple-Echo mode for accurate through-coating measurements, meeting the requirements of classification societies
  • Echo-Echo and Single-Echo modes for heavily corroded metals with little or no coating
  • Deep Coat function ignores coatings up to 20 mm thick
  • Live A-scan supports visual verification of measurement results
  • Data logging with A-scan and auto-log function for straightforward reporting
  • Manual and automatic gain control
  • Adjustable min/max limits with visual and vibration alert
  • Large sunlight-readable LCD display on the front panel
  • Safe for use in explosive atmospheres (Class 1, Division 2, Group D per NFPA 70)
  • One and two-point calibration
  • Robust housing: shock and impact resistant (US MIL STD 810G)
  • Splash and dust proof (IP67)
  • Upgradeable to the 6+ variant

The Cygnus 4+ is compatible with three probe types, each suited to specific measurement conditions.

Single crystal probes are used in Multiple-Echo mode. They feature a replaceable wear membrane for long service life, require no zero-point adjustment and offer high linear accuracy.

Twin crystal probes are used in Echo-Echo and Single-Echo modes and are particularly effective on metals with severe back wall corrosion and pitting.

The high-temperature probe is a twin crystal probe for measurements on in-service assets at surface temperatures up to 300°C. No cooling period is required, significantly reducing inspection time. The measurement range is 1.5 to 250 mm, depending on temperature and material.

All probes are made from stainless steel with a hard wear face or replaceable wear membrane. Full probe specifications are available via the downloadable datasheet or on request.

Ideal for:

  • Industrial plant maintenance
  • Ship inspection and hull surveys
  • Civil engineering and structural inspection
  • Oil and gas facilities
  • High-temperature inspection of in-service assets (refineries, energy and process sectors)
  • Rope access
  • Storage tanks and pipelines
